Edson da Conceicao (Rotterdam, 1987) is a filmmaker, director and screenwriter. In 2019, he graduated from the Netherlands Film Academy with two short films: PORFOTTO, which earned him a place among the finalists at the Student Academy Awards, and MANIA, which won multiple international awards, including Best Film of the Month at the European Cinematography Awards. His work is defined by layered characters, moral ambiguity and socially relevant stories. As a filmmaker, he is drawn to stories that challenge and unsettle, not for the sake of provocation, but to get closer to the truth. His deep connection to Rotterdam and his ability to tell stories from within give his work a raw and deeply human quality, where tension and emotion go hand in hand. Since graduating, he has directed films including LAST RIDE (2020), DE STERFSHOW (2021) and PARIAH (2024), and served as co-director of THE CRASH (2022), the Golden Calf-winning drama series that was sold to seven countries internationally. He also directed episodes of MEDISCH CENTRUM WEST (2024) and co-wrote MOCRO MAFFIA: TAXI (2024). His feature film debut LOST SON (2026) was selected for the Tallinn Black Nights Goes to Cannes programme at the Marché du Film during the 2026 Cannes Film Festival. He also serves as Director and Creative Director of NARCOSTAD, an upcoming crime drama series for Videoland.
