Maureen is a Montreal, Quebec-based filmmaker and co-founder of Picture This Productions. For the past three decades, her work has focused on diving into subcultures and complicated human dynamics. Her latest feature documentary, There Goes My Childhood, continues that exploration by exploring the realities of early YouTube child stardom. She started her career writing and co-directing an award-winning trilogy of documentaries about at-risk youth: Longshots (1994), Backroads (1995) and Still Longshots (2008). She also directed Violeurs, a French-language documentary for TVA that probed the psychology of convicted sex offenders; the award-winning TVO personal documentary When Two Won’t Do, a road trip through the emotional fallout of polyamory; and the CBC Gem documentary web series Seen & Heard, following a Deaf and hearing theatre group, which took home Best Documentary honours at both Webfest Sicily and the Minnesota Webfest. Behind the camera, she’s co-written and co-produced the youth series Warrior Up!, and the documentary series Arm Nation and Watchers of the North, all for APTN.
